Watchers

I dunno how many people from KRR read this, or at least how many people who read this don't already know the situation, but here goes.

So those of you who DO krr may have noticed some weird stuff goin' down.  Accusations being flung around, mudslinging, all good stuff.  All on the front page, where it doesn't belong.

Thanks for that, Ometon.

I wanna clear some stuff up.  But I don't wanna do it there, because we don't need finger pointing and name calling.  We don't need passive-aggressive attacks on people, sarcastic insults, things like that.  Those things don't have a place on KRR, especially not from staff, and I'm sorry they've reared their ugly head.

Right, so.  For the past while KRR's essentially been under the control of Bimblesnaff and Ometon exclusively.  It wasn't until just a couple of months ago that some other staff members got FTP access, so we could actually do things like update older articles.

It was also at this point that Ometon, at least, apparently stopped doing any actual work on the site.  Bimble also seemed to become notably quiet, although I'm aware that he did still work on stuff in the background.

I wasn't using the access at the time, so I can't give a firsthand account of things quite yet, but from what I understand basically everyone was owned by Ometon's ftp account.  According to him,. he did this because.. I'm not even sure, because it messed up if it belonged to the rainbowresort account? Because he refused to use that account himself? I don't even know.

Anyway, this caused some confusion for us, as any attempts to edit "his" files would be met with an error, although edits still went through when I tried it recently.  Some people say that, at first, everything was protected so that ONLY he could edit it, but by the time Minon started looking into things, at least, this wasn't the case.  I admit now that it was probably never the case, although that error could cause some understandable confusion.  So, good, we can edit things as we please, right?

Not as such, no.

We still weren't able to access parts of KRR's gallery or passport system, apparently including the admin pages.  Further, there was a problem with both that was exasperated by this lack of access, although Minon was able to work around them, bless his heart.  Additionally, the part of passport that was used for answering Mailbag was specifically removed, so that had to be worked around.

That's why things were rocky for a while: someone was placing obstacles in our paths.

Things were sour for a while before that, too.  When details for Kirby: Return to Dreamland showed up, a new update was made with a link to NK's blog, which had the details.  Unfortunately, because you MIGHT see some swears if you clicked on a DIFFERENT PAGE on his site, due to an inline twitter feed, the link was quietly removed by someone.  And then put back.  A small edit war ensued, with glod specifically getting permission from Bagel, one of the site's owners, to include the link.  Ometon was having none of that, though, and continued to edit out the link until Bagel himself personally spoke to him on the matter.  Additionally, glod's ability to edit his own new update was quietly revoked. The system didn't even spit him back an error; it would just claim the edit had gone through but not actually show it.

Ometon has tried to claim a lack of communication as part of this.  I can assure you, any lack of communication is not because of a lack of us trying.  I've sent several e-mails, tried to IM him a few times, and never received any reply.  At best I think I've emailed a link to either Ometon or his brother and later seen them reply to the forum topic it linked to.  I can also vividly recall a time when Ometon was on AIM for several hours, updating his AIM status thing ("Lifestream") yet remained silent to glod's messages, later claiming to have not only not received them, but also to have not seen glod online at the time.  In most situations I can understand, say, leaving a device on with AIM connected while you're not around (I've done it several times with my iPod touch), but those status updates were clear indication that he was around, and the fact that glod could see HIM online is clear indication that neither was blocking the other.  Either Ometon was simply ignoring him, or there was some weird AIM glitch.

Given Ometon's habit of ignoring our attempts, claiming to never even get any emails or IMs, I'm willing to bet it's the former.

It goes further than that.

Ometon (and Bimble, for that matter) will occasionally claim an "us vs. them" attitude between "the forum" (which includes the chat) and "the site" (which does not include the forum).  Recently, for example, Ometon claimed that "the forum" has advocated getting rid of the site in favour of the forum.

This is either a lie or gross misunderstanding.  I'm not sure which would be less flattering.

No one wants to get rid of the site.  A static site, with a definite URL that will not disappear or change or be pruned has obvious benefits.  You can link to those things without fear of them changing or vanishing or breaking.  A site serves as a hub to link disparate sections, gallery and oekaki and wiki and forums.  At most, some of us have advocated hooking news updates into the forum.  Considering the comments section on an update act as a small forum ANYWAY, it's kind of a no-brainer.  There's been a few other things like that, such as one of them getting mad when glod posted a news update on chat trivia, claiming that that was "forum stuff," and had no place on the front page.

We'd like to actually integrate everything, get a single community, ideally a single KRR login.  A single username, a single password, used across the oekaki, gallery, forum, news comments.  We'd like for as many of these as possible to be merged in a single login as simply as possible.  We'd like to avoid issues like wolfer30 recently trying to log into the forums with his Passport credentials and not being able to, because he never registered for the forums.

I recognise that communication and trust could use some improvement, from BOTH parties.  I recognise that we all need to improve a bit and stop pointing fingers.  I also believe the fault is not as much on our end as Ometon and the users of the front page seem to think or claim it is. And yes, I also recognise that that's the "pointing fingers" that I just said needs to be toned down.

Mostly, though, I think we all need to understand that we all want to help KRR.  Saying that the other guys DON'T, that they won't do ANYTHING, and then impeding their ability to do things, isn't going to help anyone do anything; it's only letting down the users.  Yes, this means BOTH crippling parts of the site and pointing out that we've done nothing but apologise for them being broken and trying to fix those parts, and ALSO holding secret skype chats that don't include everybody.

The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars,
But in ourselves, that we are underlings.
